Lower Shaker Lake was formed in the 1820’s by The North Union Shakers by damming Doan Brook for a saw mill. After many iterations, the Buffalo Real Estate Company that owned the old Shaker lands donated 279 acres of it, including Lower and Upper Shaker Lake, to the City of Cleveland in 1896. It is now a wildlife area complete with walking and jogging paths and Nature Center with a boardwalk over portions of the lake.
