Saw-Whet owl. I had been looking for this little own for several days. One morning I was looking high up in a pine tree where it had been spotted the day before. Not seeing it, I turned around to leave the trail and there it was. It was at eye level in a tangle of vines no more than 10-15 feet away. This is my luckiest and favorite owl photo.

As I was taking these photos, it opened its eyes. At that point, I quickly backed away as not to disturb it.
